Today the FAA announced a new program for state, local, and tribal governments to submit proposals for innovative uses of drones. This is the first such program of its kind, and only a handful of candidate applications will be accepted. The FAA is looking for innovative uses of drones, including flying beyond-line-of-sight, over populated areas, and nighttime operations, etc.; basically, all things that are currently prohibited. Applications must come from public sector entities, which could be anything from a local fire department to a large public university (as well as tribal governments) – but not private entities, such as Vayu.
If you know of anyone in the public sector (or tribal government) that might be interested in partnering with Vayu, please pass this along. There isn’t much time – letters of intent are due soon — by November 28.
